Carlsbad is a coastal community located 35 miles north of downtown San Diego. Carlsbad is home to world-class resorts such as the La Costa Resort and Spa and the Four Seasons Resort at Aviara, offering championship-level golf and tennis facilities. The newest addition to Carlsbad's commercial/recreational landscape is Legoland, which opened in Spring 1999. The City of Carlsbad has a strong economy, much of which has come from industrial development.
